10 Daredevil Questions That Will Bug You Like Crazy

After a few years of falling behind DC when it comes to comic book TV, Marvel has finally come up with the equalizer – DAREDEVIL. The Netflix series revolves around a blind, lawyer-by-day, vigilante-by-night, Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil), fiercely protecting the citizens of his city - Hell’s Kitchen.

All 13 episodes of the first season were released in a day, essentially making it feel like a 13-hour long movie. The title is spreading like wildfire, critics have given it great reviews and nerds around to world have lost valuable sleep trying to finish it in one sitting.

But alas, its inevitable end will leave you wanting – especially when you have all these dangling questions left unanswered!

(Spoilers! Many, many spoilers! A lot from the show and some from the comics.)

1) Who will Karen end up with?

triangle

I’ll start off with the shallowest question ever (but one I’m sure some are asking too). Is Karen Team Matt, or Team Foggy? Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they deviated from the generic love triangle sub-plot, even it was ripe for it to manifest, but I’m sure it’ll come up eventually.

Personally, I’d rather it was Foggy. ‘Coz c’mon, second fiddle guys never get the girl! Let him have this one!

2) Will we see The Owl, Gladiator, Elektra, and Bullseye?

Daredevil’s other costumed supporting characters in the comics have already made their presence felt in the freshman season. Leland Owlsley is the real name for DD villain, The Owl. Dim but gentle, Melvin Potter, is Gladiator. The “Greek girl from college” is most likely another Marvel icon and one of Matt’s steadier girlfriends, Elektra Natchios. And the sniper with the playing card might be Bullseye.

Maybe these characters will appear in some form, maybe not. But one thing’s for sure…Leland won’t be The Owl. Falling off an elevator shaft and bleeding from the head exponentially decreases the likelihood of that happening.

owlsley
Probably not The Owl.

3) What was Madame Gao’s purpose in NY? And where did she come from?

Before Madame Gao leaves Hell’s Kitchen, she cryptically says that her purpose was not to sell heroine and that she comes from a land a bit farther than China. My money’s on K’un L’un, a mystical city where Marvel Hero, Iron Fist, was trained and given powers. With an Iron Fist series on its way, will we be seeing Madame Gao again outside the realm of Daredevil? Was she somehow setting up the stage for the scantily-clad, chi-wielding, martial arts hero?

Oh, right. Madame Gao's drug packets.

4) Where is Matt’s mother?

In the show, they said that Matt’s mom was an absentee parent. In the comics, she’s mentally unstable and chooses to leave her family in fear of their safety. But she’s taken in by a church and eventually becomes a nun herself. Given Matt’s very Catholic outlook, I wonder if Mrs. Murdock can become an element in the show’s future.

5) Where the heck did that ninja come from? And what were the Japanese trying to build inside Hell’s Kitchen?

A regular player in the Daredevil mythos is the merciless red-dressed mystical ninja clan, The Hand. It hasn’t been confirmed if Nobu was in fact part of The Hand, but his peculiar color choices and the fact that HE’S A NINJA is making it highly probable.

And throughout the season we see Nobu laying out a map of Hell’s Kitchen with a city block marked off. They never said what they planned to do with the spot. Was it prime real estate? Was Nobu planning to settle down with Mrs. Nobu? In recent DD story, The Hand established a base of operations on Hell’s Kitchen called Shadowland. If Nobu is in fact a Hand ninja, this may be what they intended to make.

6) Who is Stick talking to at the end of episode 7?

In episode 7’s last scene, Stick is shown reporting to someone who had his back turned away from the camera. At the end credits, it’s revealed that the character’s name is Stone. Who is Stone, you ask? In the comics, he’s Stick’s other favorite pupil who’s had a love-hate relationship with Matt. Both Stick and Stone (heh, “Stick and stone”) are part of a different clan of ninja’s called the Chaste, but whether or not they’ll be making life more difficult for DD, or helping him in his crusade remains to be seen.

Stick and Stone WILL break your bones!

And what was that about being ready when a door opens? What door?? Could they be alluding to the war Stick keeps telling Matt about? Is this going to be a war between the two ninja factions? Alas, more questions we’ll just have to live with for now.

7) Will anyone ever find out about what Karen did to Wesley?

wesley

One huge secret that actually STAYED a secret until the very end was Karen’s ill-fated encounter with Wesley. But it’s sure to bite her in the ass if (or when) either of Matt, Foggy or Fisk finds out.

8) Will drinking eel cause any permanent harm to Foggy and Karen’s bodies?

I’m sure you remember that time when Foggy and Karen allegedly drank eel. I’m no doctor but that’s got to be some sort of health risk, right? How funny would it be if Season 2 opened with a funeral scene and a shot of the tombstone that says “Death By Eel.” Mahehe.

9) Will we ever see the trademark rope that Daredevil’s double batons come with?

daredevil_by_uncannyknack-d68e5v0
HOW COOL WOULD IT BE TO SEE THIS?!?!

When Daredevil finally came out in his classic, crimson red, horn-sporting outfit, it was GLORIOUS. But it’s still lacking the rope he uses to swing around town faster. I have no idea how they’ll be able to incorporate rope-swinging and still keep it grounded, but I SURE HOPE WE STILL SEE IT!!!

10) When the hell are we supposed to expect season 2?

Your guess is as good as mine. All I know is that Marvel is set to release “AKA Jessica Jones” next, followed by 2 seasons on Luke Cage and Iron Fist respectively, until they eventually all come together under the title “The Defenders”. Sooooo, if I had to guess, we still have to wait around 2 or 3 years for Daredevil Season 2.

SEASON 2! SEASON 2! SEASON 2! SEASON 2!

If you haven’t gotten around to seeing Daredevil, I guarantee that you are gonna binge-watch the sh*t out of that show. But then you’ll finish…and feel empty, agitated, unsettled - like an addict looking for a fix. Life will suddenly lose all meaning…

At least until it comes back 2 to 3 years down the road! But good luck keeping it together ‘til then!
