A Very Geeky Christmas...Wishlist

Christmas is right around the corner! I hope you’ve gotten around completing your Christmas list (which honestly, you should really be done with already)! I know that every year, finding gifts for nerdy friends/children/nieces and nephews/officemates/lovers is a major concern (just pretend this is true)! But fret not. I may be able to help. Here’s my geeky wish list this Christmas that’ll hopefully give you an idea of what YOU’LL give! (For my ideas last year, click HERE!)

Anime Shows To Catch During The Holiday Break!

I haven’t been a big anime fan since the time of Dragon Ball Z, Ghost Fighter (Yuyu Hakusho), Zenki and Fushigi Yuugi, but I’ve recently come across a few new shows that I ended up absolutely loving! They’re what I would call gateway anime – fun shows that are easy enough to follow if you want to get back into it. Anime these days cover a variety of themes, but my personal picks are about food, hyperactive hormones, a bored, bald, and an overpowered superhero.

APCC: Cosplay, Toys and Statues Photo Dump!

Collecting all my cosplay, toys and statue photos from last Sunday's Asia Pop Comicon (APCC) in one post. Hope you like photo dumps! Had a lot of fun! Read more about the event HERE!

COSPLAY HUNTING!

The guy on the left won $10,000 in APCC's Cosplay competition!

APCC: The Next Big Step Of Philippine Geekery

Oh my god.

13 hours of being on our feet. My right knee is cramping, one wrong stretch and this is gonna HURT! But it was all worth eeeeeeet!!!!!

Asia Pop Comicon (APCC), the biggest comicon to hit Manila was packed with celebrity guests, entertaining panels, great cosplay sightings, and fun merchandise and giveaways. In a very literal sense, some people's dreams came true that weekend.

Nakakasilaw ung...Arc Reactors.

Kinda pricey but it was soooooo worth it!!!

9 Ways US Cons One Up Pinoy Cons (Anime Midwest 2015 Photo Dump!)

During my trip to the US last month, I was finally able to go to my first US nerd convention! It was called the Midwest Anime Con (I'm more of a comic book nerd, but what the hey. You take what you can get.) I was so excited. I've been to cons before but I always imagined US cons to be a level higher. And when we got there, it really was! Even though my cousin said that it wasn't even that great a con, to me it was still pretty awesome enough already!

Dragon Ball’s New Era Begins

I love Dragon Ball, especially Dragon Ball Z. I grew up with it, watched all the episodes, watched all the movies, and played all the video games. That said I’m still going to try my best to be objective about this movie review, despite my great, great love for the show. (I may go full DBZ nerd on you from time to time, I’m sorry in advance.)

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F opens with Frieza’s army’s stand-in commander, Sorbet, attempting to resurrect their late master. When he succeeds, Frieza plots his revenge on the Saiyans that destroyed him. The plot is fairly simple, giving the movie ample opportunity to focus on the fighting.

5 Awesome Gifts You Can Give A Nerd This Christmas

Drool-inducing gift ideas for people who love comics, movies, TV, and anime!

I’ve been to a lot of bazaars and when I’m there, I’m always on the lookout for cool and unique items that cater to my pop culture love! And with Christmas just around the corner, and as the upstanding, publicly responsible nerd that I am, I wish to share a few of my favorite finds! Here are my top 5 things you can give a nerd on Christmas!

Raining (Spider)Men @ Cosplay Mania 2014

From Left: Miles Morales Ultimate Spider-Man, May Parker (?) Spider-Girl...I donno...Spider-Dwarf?, Black Suit Spidey, Spider-Man Noir, Gwen Stacy Spider-Woman, Regular Spider-Man behind her and Leinil Yu Spider-Man.

Threeviews: A Million Ways To Die In The West, Rurouni Kenshin 3, The Equalizer

For some reason, this article got overwritten. But. It's ok. I can rewrite a cliff notes version!

A Million Ways to Die In The West

Utterly juvenile. But salvaged by some pretty cool cameos and Charlize Theron. Barely.

MICMIC RATING: 5/10

The Equalizer

Denzel Washington's gravitas and badassery is (not surprisingly) the only thing worth anything in the film.

Dat face.

MICMIC RATING: 7/10

Rurouni Kenshin 3: The Legend Ends

The greatest Asian film ever made!!!! That 4 on 1 scene was sick! The sword fighting, the faithfulness to the source material, EVERYTHING - EVERYTHING WAS MIND BLOWING!!!!!

I think I cried a little bit during this scene. It was too awesome for me to bear.

MICMIC RATING: 9.5 / 10 (.5 is because I want more. And that this was slightly darker than the previous 2 movies.)

So there! Boom! Done!

Beautiful Mayhem: Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno

So. F*cking. Awesome.

Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno brings high-octane sword-fighting action to a whole 'nother level.

I mean it. The biggest impression the movie left me was how well done fight scenes are. They're massive in scale, lighting-fast, powerful, and beautifully chaotic. This isn't just random hack-and-slash action, there's a dance within all the commotion.

Bigger and Better! ToyCon 2014

Happy 75th Birthday, Batman!

Another year, another ToyCon! Yay! (Said me and every other nerd in Metro Manila)

For those who don’t know, ToyCon (or Toy Convention) is the single biggest event in the Philippines where comic book, sci fi, anime, video game, and Cosplay geeks are gathered to celebrate all geekishness.

Cute Tokidoki tumblers!

Black Widow and Punisher Sitting on a Tree...

Movie Review: Avengers Confidential: Black Widow and Punisher

Black Widow and Punisher haven’t had that much success in being introduced to the general public. The Punisher movies were kooky and forgettable, and while I enjoy seeing the gorgeous Scarlet Johannson as much as the next guy, her Black Widow just didn’t say deadly, RUSSIAN assassin for me. But this movie, albeit animated, has got the best and most hardcore version of Punisher and Black Widow I’ve ever seen.

Le superhero chacha!

Of Cars and Coffee @ ToysCafe

How I wish I could've found out about this place BEFORE Christmas. It would've been the perfect place to look for a gift. I could eat and relax and buy my gifts all in one place!

Where is this, you ask? It is a nice little place called ToysCafe. It's located at the 2nd floor of Ash Creek Center at the corner of Ortigas ext. and Madison street. ToysCafe is a one-stop shop for food, coffee, and tons (and tons) of toys!

Detour at the 8th Christmas Toys and Collectibles Fair

On my way home from Batangas, a friend told me there was a ToyCon at Megamall. Good thing I had my trusty camera with me, took a few shots of the event floor, which was relatively smaller than the usual toy convention. But cool nonetheless.:)

Celebrating Superman's 75th Anniversary!

Cosplay Crazy

Cosplay Mania was held last Oct. 5 and 6 at the SMX Convention Center. And I’ve been to my fair share of cosplay events through the years, but not one this immense. It’s amazing what a lot of fan passion and creativity can do.

Arriving at the venue, you can already see just how many people were anticipating the event. SMX overflowed of cosplayers and fans. The scene was painted with colorful characters and enormous props. Photographers had a field day!

We entered the hall floor and it was like a festival. Merchants were selling all sorts of anime paraphernalia. From your usual shirts, books, posters and toys, to the less usual, like Harry Potter necklaces, Anime pillows, Captain America aprons, to sewing machines. Yup, sewing machines.

For Sale: Bags, pillows, keychains…and aprons?!?!
