-822623_w1020h450c1cx510cy248

Christmas is right around the corner! I hope you’ve gotten around completing your Christmas list (which honestly, you should really be done with already)! I know that every year, finding gifts for nerdy friends/children/nieces and nephews/officemates/lovers is a major concern (just pretend this is true)! But fret not. I may be able to help. Here’s my geeky wish list this Christmas that’ll hopefully give you an idea of what YOU’LL give! (For my ideas last year, click HERE!)

4 Problems I Had With Marvel's Jessica Jones

Title

Marvel’s Jessica Jones, the newest Marvel property to get a Netflix adaptation, was critically slated to be as good, if not better than last April’s Daredevil. But when my brothers and I finally found the time to binge watch the shit out of that show, we found out that the critics miiiiiiight have slightly been overstating things.

The most badass super-heroine on TV with one of the coolest villains ever.

Even though I don’t share my brothers’ passionate and very vocal hating on the new Netflix show, I do understand where they’re coming from and agree with a lot of their arguments. Marvel’s Jessica Jones had cool moments for sure, some of which were deliciously horrifying, but as a whole, Jessica Jones season 1 felt frustrating and repetitive.

Oh my god.

13 hours of being on our feet. My right knee is cramping, one wrong stretch and this is gonna HURT! But it was all worth eeeeeeet!!!!!

Asia Pop Comicon (APCC), the biggest comicon to hit Manila was packed with celebrity guests, entertaining panels, great cosplay sightings, and fun merchandise and giveaways. In a very literal sense, some people's dreams came true that weekend.

As happy as we are about this impending event, I’m sure no one’s more excited about Oktoberfest than the guys on this list. Here’s my Top 10 Most Loveable Drunks on TV and Movies!

9 Kickass Fictional Schools We'd All Love To Go To!

Xavier School 3

Go to school!

It’s the mantra responsible parents all have. But as children, we rarely ever saw the value of academic study. I remember the sheer joy of finding out classes were suspended, or when the bell rings at 4pm and it was time to go home, or PE. But I’m sure not all children/students find school so bemoaning. Especially if they’re going to these (fictional) schools!

10 SDCC '15 Things That Gave Me Man Tears

sdcc_logo

San Diego Comic Con, one of the two most important cons in any given year, just ended last weekend. The big wigs wait for this con to announce a lot of their new and exciting projects and release exclusive footage or merchandise.  The nerd community looks forward to this con maybe more than they look forward to their own birthdays!

And this year was no different. A lot of cool stuff were announced and just as a show of my own excitement, I wanted to share with you which of this year's SDCC news got all my juices flowing!

Awesome Things To Expect At A Con!

Every year, more and more nerds are born made. Thanks to Marvel movies and DC TV, our people have grown exponentially! And with that growth comes the rise in attendees in nerd conventions. One of the most prominent of which, is the Philippine ToyCon!

11391113_10153394879247437_8784325230960973219_n

And ToyCon 2015 is right around the corner! June 19-21 to be exact! If it’s your first time going, or you don’t know what Cons are, let me tell you what you can generally expect from them. But for those (likely very few) nerds who have no interest in Cons, let me tell you what you’re missing!

Dragon Ball’s New Era Begins

drgaon-ball-z-resurrection-no-f-movie

I love Dragon Ball, especially Dragon Ball Z. I grew up with it, watched all the episodes, watched all the movies, and played all the video games. That said I’m still going to try my best to be objective about this movie review, despite my great, great love for the show. (I may go full DBZ nerd on you from time to time, I’m sorry in advance.)

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F opens with Frieza’s army’s stand-in commander, Sorbet, attempting to resurrect their late master. When he succeeds, Frieza plots his revenge on the Saiyans that destroyed him. The plot is fairly simple, giving the movie ample opportunity to focus on the fighting.

The 'Coolest' Movie Characters (Because Summer)

brr

It’s been freakishly hot, hasn’t it? I mean, sure it’s summer, but it feels so much hotter than usual. We used to just be able to cook eggs off the pavement of the street, but now, I wouldn’t be surprised if we could FRY stuff on it too! Kinda makes you wish any of these ‘cool’ movie characters were real. They’d definitely have a way to beat this ungodly heat!

Superheroes Who Celebrate Labor Day

labor

I’m sure even superheroes celebrate Labor day. No one, not even Supermen, can escape bills and rent and whatnot. Unfortunately for them, they don’t get paid for saving the world from certain doom. So superheroes need day jobs too!

Although I can’t imagine anyone being a masked vigilante while crunching numbers as an accountant; or scouring the rooftops at night while addressing client demands in advertising. If they’re gonna go vigilante-ing, they might as well choose a profession that helps maintain that lifestyle. (I imagine they’d need the type of work that gives them access to resources and some freedom from managerial oversight.) In light of that, here are some of the jobs that are most suitable for the ever busy superhero!

10 Daredevil Questions That Will Bug You Like Crazy

dd logo

After a few years of falling behind DC when it comes to comic book TV, Marvel has finally come up with the equalizer – DAREDEVIL. The Netflix series revolves around a blind, lawyer-by-day, vigilante-by-night, Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil), fiercely protecting the citizens of his city - Hell’s Kitchen.

dd2

All 13 episodes of the first season were released in a day, essentially making it feel like a 13-hour long movie. The title is spreading like wildfire, critics have given it great reviews and nerds around to world have lost valuable sleep trying to finish it in one sitting.

But alas, its inevitable end will leave you wanting – especially when you have all these dangling questions left unanswered!

(Spoilers! Many, many spoilers! A lot from the show and some from the comics.)

4 New Shows That I So Desperately Want Other People To Watch

all

Oh god, there are some pretty great shows that started just a few weeks ago and since then I’ve been advocating them to my friends non-stop! So I figure, why not write about it?? I think they hold a lot of promise. They’re unique shows (in their own right) that you’ll immediately and ABSOLUTELY love! Or maybe that’s just me, I don’t know. Either way, they’re worth checking out!

Pop Culture's Famous Love Triangles

cycjean - wolvjean

Are you pining for a woman who’s also being courted by another guy? Sucks, don’t it? While I can’t tell you what to do to come out on top in situations like these, I CAN tell you that you’re not alone. Love triangles have been a mainstay in pop culture romances since the beginning of time! Check these out and maybe you can learn a thing or two that can give you that edge you need to get your girl!

Flash VS. Arrow: Who Would REALLY Win?

If we're basing the fight on the CW series, then yeah, sure, Arrow might stand a small chance, given CW's Flash is a total idiot. (Seriously, if he knew how to use his powers better, every major villain fight would end in a second!) But if we're basing it on Flash's abilities in the comics, then hands down, it's no contest, Flash will no doubt come out on top.

How? Here's a few ideas:

5 Awesome Gifts You Can Give A Nerd This Christmas

I’ve been to a lot of bazaars and when I’m there, I’m always on the lookout for cool and unique items that cater to my pop culture love! And with Christmas just around the corner, and as the upstanding, publicly responsible nerd that I am, I wish to share a few of my favorite finds! Here are my top 5 things you can give a nerd on Christmas!

3 Underappreciated Animated Shows

A lot of people think cartoons are "for children only", or that they're silly and not to be taken seriously, but I completely disagree! Animated shows have evolved to become a medium for great, quality story-telling. Just like it was last year with shows like Young Justice, Green Lanter TAS and Tron Legacy. But this year, there's three new shows that deserve everyone's attention! May it be for their artwork, the stellar writing, the strong vocal work or the surprisingly smart humor.

Fall 2014 TV Favs!

A lot of us don't have a much time to watch TV shows these days. But if you do decide to hit the couch for a few hours a week, I'd recommend you spend it on these new shows.

Gordon's City - Gotham Review

Gotham just premiered today. I don't usually write about TV shows but I'm making an exception on this one.

GOTH_Publicity_003_V7_RR_FF
Lesson for today: Don't judge a book by its premise.

I wasn't excited at all about Gotham. With Flash and Constantine premiering soon, it's hard to invest on a show that's only "pre-superhero". It's based on the Batman mythos...without Batman. Instead, it's about a supporting character - Jim Gordon. Granted, Jim's an important persona in the Batman mythos, but a show about Batman's glorified police department liaison? WHY?!

But I LOVED GOTHAM.
