Marvel's New Frontier: The Guardians of the Galaxy
Peter Quill and the rest of the Guardians have joined the ranks of Han Solo and Mal Reynolds as some of the most iconic space cowboys ever imagined!
Everything about this movie is AMAZING. It's got everything you could look for in a movie: one massively EPIC space adventure, the coolest and most loveable characters, energetic and dazzling action sequences, some of the most imaginative and gorgeous visual designs and cinematography, a helluva catchy soundtrack, and more humor than you could possibly ask for!
One of the many "F*CK YEAH!!!" scenes of the movie.
(This is article ended up being pretty long, so go ahead and skip to the final paragraph if you just want the bottom line. I don't mind. Really.)
Severed head is actually a planet-like station. Go figure.
No one can deny that this was (absolutely) the funniest Marvel movie ever!
Even though I thought it was a tad longer than it should've been, it
still never got boring. The gags and clever quips and 80's pop culture references were relentless!
Chris Pratt makes good use of his comedic prowess.
But more than anything else, it was the collection of colorful characters that made this movie great.
The love child of Indiana Jones and Han Solo - Star Lord.
Chris Pratt is the cocksure, self-obsessed, but utterly charismatic Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star Lord. His journey from rebel without a cause to noble hero has been done before, sure, but Pratt's sincerity and lightheartedness still made it entertaining to watch.
Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista FTW!
Dave Bautista was surprisingly hilarious as the maniac murderer, Drax! (Nothing goes over my head...my reflexes are quick, I would catch it.) This is probably his best acting job to date! (Not that that's saying anything though.) (Update: Just found out he took extra acting lessons for the role. I guess it paid off!)
Drax VS. the world!
Zoe Saldana is feisty and ruthless as Gamora, but no surprise there. Also, is it weird that I find her attractive despite the fact that she's green? And Groot was...well, He is Groot. The character is undoubtedly the heart of the team. Even though I still wish Vin Diesel was given a different Marvel character to play, he does make the most of the 3 words he's allowed to say.
Team Green!
You don't mess with Mild-mannered Ned and Zombie-killer Merle!
Even the Nova Corp characters were memorable. John Reilly's "I don't believe anyone's 100% a d*ck." was hysterical! And Denarian Saal, by simply saying "Rocket!" before dying, spoke volumes about his character.
You can't go wrong with natural comedy actors - John C. Reilly and Bradley Cooper.
But it was the loud, cynical, gun-totting
"Racoon", Rocket, that stole the show. In a movie with characters
overflowing with testosterone and muscles (that have muscles), Rocket
still stood out as being the toughest SOB of them all. His badassity knows no bounds! And Bradley Cooper. Man. That guy. Amazing voice work on Rocket. You wouldn't even recognize it was him! And his comedic timing is perfect!
Oh (hell) yeeeeaaaahhh!
Guardians of the Galaxy is often loud, and fast-paced. But the movie also offers these short, solemn scenes which gave the Guardians some strong character development, and ultimately paved the way for them to forge the bonds within their team. Rocket's drunken tirade and Drax's heartfelt apology and even Groot giving a girl a flower were very small, but very powerful moments for the characters. And when these misfits finally come together in a scene near the end of the climax, it was a testament of how much their bonds have grown. (Not to mention being one of the most GLORIOUS moments of the movie!)
Star Lord's idea of team building.
"You said it yourself bitch! We're the Guardians of the Galaxy."
