Top 10 Sequels and Reboots on 2015

s&r

Having a list of the Top 20 Movies of 2015 wouldn’t have been fair for new movies because 2015 is a big sequel and reboot year, so I decided I’d list them separately. Here is my Top 10 List of 2015 Sequels and Reboots!
(* Dates are from clickthecity’s upcoming movies schedule unless otherwise specified. They’re subject to change, of course.)

#10 Mission Impossible 5 (December 25, 2015 according to the Movie Insider)

Excessive amounts of hunk.

I don’t care what the story is, it’s Tom Cruise!! Back with fan-favorites Ving Rhames, Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg! It’s always a great pleasure seeing these guys gallivanting around the planet with their spy craft and their machismo and their butt-kicking.

I wonder though, are they setting Jeremy Renner up to take over the MI franchise? Only time will tell (and maybe this next movie!).

#9 The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part Two (November 20, 2015 according to the Movie Insider)

Mockingjay2-Paris-May12-003 Mockingjay_part_2_set_photo
The war goes on.

After the very disappointing Mockingjay Part One, you may wonder why I even put this here…

Because Jennifer Lawrence.

I kid. She’s great and all, but I DO like this series for all its action and politics. Not to mention its romance (Team Peeta all the way baby!). I’m a huge tween like that.

#8 Terminator: Genisys (July 1, 2015)

Arnold Schwarzenegger goes back in time to kill the future leader of a struggling human race of a robot dominated planet. But Arnold Schwarzenegger befriends the so-called savior and becomes his guardian, and they try to stop the robot apocalypse from happening but it still happens anyway. So now a future Arnold Schwarzenegger is sent back again to kill the savior again but good Arnold Schwarzenegger is waiting for him, so they kill each other to prevent the future from not happening or happening again.

Yyyyyyyyyeah, it’s gotten a bit convoluted. But hey, who wouldn’t want to see Arnold Schwarzenegger have it out with his younger, less wrinkly self, right?? And sweet robot carnage is STILL sweet. robot. carnage!

#7 Jurassic World (June 10, 2015)

Not entirely sure if Jurassic World is a reboot or a sequel to the first three Jurassic Park movies. But it still looks like some great, savage, dino-fun! Also, Chris Pratt riding beside what I assume are his dino-sidekicks?! HOW FREAKING AWESOME WAS THAT?!

#6 Pitch Perfect 2 (May 13, 2015)

Last year’s surprise hit is back with another estrogen-driven feel good musical. ‘Til now I sing most of the songs they used in the first movie, I wonder what new songs I’ll be memorizing again this year.

#5 The Fantastic Four (August 6, 2015)

The reboot's VERY young cast.

A reboot of Marvel’s first family that will feature a black Johnny Storm – something traditional fans have condemned since it was announced. Get over it people! It’s not that big a deal! We’ve already seen a black Nick Fury before, how is this any different? I for one just can’t wait for the reboot to come out. It’s high time the Fantastic Four made their way back into the Marvel spotlight!

#4 Taken 3 (January 14, 2015)

To borrow a phrase from comedians Key and Peele…Liam Neesons is my sh****t!!!!!! Liam Neeson is the coolest, most bad ass, most macho, most sought after geri-action star of this age. He may not be the best looking or muscular person, but Liam Neeson’s voice, his delivery, his subtle physicality, his stare, his naturally stern demeanor, all contribute to give an unmatched intensity and gravitas to his every performance. In Taken 3, we’ll again have the pleasure of seeing this man do what he does best - kick ass and take names!

#3 Furious 7 (April 4, 2015)

Nothing was more heart-breaking that losing Paul Walker to a car accident in 2013, but kudos to his Fast and Furious family for having the strength to finish their 7th project together in his honor. The latest installment of Fast and Furious will feature an INSANE all-star cast including mainstays Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster and the late Paul Walker. Along with new faces, Jason Statham, Kurt Russel and Ronda Rousey, and a returning Lucas Black.

I wonder how they complete it with Paul Walker not able to finish shooting all his scenes. Either way, I would not miss this for the world. It’s sure to be the most emotional movie of the franchise to date!

#2 The Avengers: Age of Ultron (April 29, 2015)

It was an ambitious idea. To bring 4 different movies and have them converge into one, massive, superhero epic was unheard of! But they did it! The Avengers is the single greatest thing to happen to cinema. If you won the lottery, then went on a date with the hottest woman on the planet, all whilst riding a Unicorn, then you would have something CLOSE to how amazing Avengers was when it happened.

And now they’re DOING IT AGAIN! AVENGERS 2 BABY! *Cue the world’s collective nerd-gasm*

#1 Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens (December 17, 2015)

And my number 1 pick…STAR WARS! Home of Jedis, Sith Lords, lightsabers, millennium falcons, x-wings, storm troopers, Skywalkers and Han Solos!!!

We all thought it was the end after Episode III. It’s already become immortal with just the first three movies, but having a THIRD trilogy is just welcome overkill. (And I hope they keep making these movies FOREVER!) Three generations of fans all had their panties in a bunch when the teaser trailer came out and by December of this year, the same people will probably be weeping in anticipation!

May the Force be with us…while we wait a whole frigging year!!!!

And now for the special mentions! (Because I can’t bring myself to not mention them!)

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (January 8, 2015)
This is what is most likely Robin Williams’ last film shown in the Philippines, so yeah, we gotta see it!
Mad Max: Fury Road (May 14, 2015)
For the sheer amount of hype for this movie, one that I frankly do not understand, I will include it in my special mentions.
Insurgent (March 20 according to the Movie Insider)
The sequel to the Giver…este, Divergent.
Magic Mike XXL (July 8, 2015)
Who DOESN’T want more Magic Mike??? Aright, aright, aright, aright?
Ted 2 (June 26, 2015 according to the Movie Insider)
The crude, rude, teddy bear is back!
     Entourage (June 10, 2015)

Okay, I finally have a reason to binge watch the Entourage.

***

If you’re feeling like you want to watch movies that are new and not part of a massive franchise already, then go read my Top 20 List of 2015 Movies I’m Most Excited About. But if you’re just as excited about these sequels as I am, then go ahead and mark your calendars! Let’s all painfully wait for these blockbusters (aka. all our dreams coming true) to arrive and bombard us with their awesomeness!
